What is PerimeterX (HUMAN)?

PerimeterX (renamed to HUMAN Security in 2022, product name Bot Defender) protects e-commerce, classifieds, and account-takeover-sensitive sites. It is recognisable by its "Press & Hold" challenge — a behavioural check instead of an image puzzle.

How PerimeterX (HUMAN) protects sites

  • Press & Hold behavioural challenge
  • `_px*` cookie family (`_pxhd`, `_pxvid`, `_px3`)
  • JavaScript SDK collecting mouse/keystroke entropy
  • Server-side fingerprint + risk classification
  • Block, challenge, or "captcha" verdict per request

Detection signals we look for

  • _pxhd or _px* cookies in response
  • Inline script reference to client.px-cdn.net or collector-PX*.perimeterx.net
  • x-px-* headers
  • Block page mentioning "Press & Hold"

Recommended Scrappey client configuration

For authorised access only — your own properties, contractually permitted scraping, QA, monitoring, accessibility audits, and similar use cases. Always respect the site's terms of service and applicable law.

  • A browser context is required — the JS SDK must execute correctly for the device to be recognised.
  • Avoid automation tells (headless flags, missing window properties); PerimeterX inspects these.
  • Use residential proxies and keep per-IP session counts low.
  • Delegate challenge handling to Scrappey with antibot: "perimeterx".

PerimeterX (HUMAN) FAQ

Is PerimeterX the same as HUMAN?

Yes — PerimeterX rebranded to HUMAN Security after acquiring White Ops. The product is now called Bot Defender, but most sites still ship the legacy _px* cookies, so detection works the same way.

Why does Press & Hold reject scripted input?

It scores the *manner* of the hold — entropy, pressure curve, micro-movements. A scripted mouse-down/mouse-up sequence is trivially recognised as non-human. You need a real interaction or Scrappey's built-in handler.
